I just hope Poile doesn't make some kind of Mad Mike offer to try to land a shiny new goal scorer when we can just as easily sign Petr Sykora.

Just how anxious is Petr to come to Nashville? Or Max for that matter?

Afinogenov came back from Russia pretty roughed up a few years back and hasn't been too keen on going back since. Sykora wants to play, and I doubt we would have any problems with bringing in a guy who has scored 20 goals in every year that the Predators have been in operation.

For these players we keep hearing rumors that the Preds are interested in .... who are supposed to be so affordable ..... and interested in playing in Nashville .... it's amazing that they aren't here yet if things are as reported online. I don't know if it's a difference in money, length of term, or willingness to play in Nashville if there are other options but things aren't adding up to support all of the rumors out there.

Or they could just be contingency plans, and Poile's main target is Kessel.

Sykora on a PTO to the Wild overnight.

And Petr is in Minnesota for a try-out. I just wonder what the rules are about signing someone to a contract under the rules. I'm starting to believe Poile is pushing this make Burke overpay for Kessel.

Sykora has no contract. If he plays well in Minnesota's camp, we can still try to sign him. If I weren't a broke-ass college student, I would bet money that we have scouts at every preseason game (and practice if that's legal) to watch Sykora.

Here's my question, let's say Toronto does make a QO to Kessel and Boston matches causing them to dump salary. Why can't Nashville call Boston and make a deal where they pick up the player they would have dumpped? Strum has a NTC. Kobasew? Ryder???

Burke could certainly lob an offer sheet at Kessel, but I think he realizes that he would look like a monumental hypocrite if he did, but that's sort of a "cross that bridge when we come to it" situation in negotiations like this, and while it's in the

I don't think we have any interest in Ryder at $4M a year. Nabbing Kobasew and Ference together would be great for us, IMO. Something based around Sulzer from our end would definitely work to our advantage, and to the advantage of Boston in such a scenario.

It might make sense to Boston too. Free up not just cap space for Kessel but a little extra to make a run at their other RFA's next year. They get a defenseman and Nashville gives up very little and really builds up their lines. With the situation above, Nashville would still most likely have to dump some salary but I still think Ellis is gone.
